Switchyard Park in BTown

Bloomington, IN–The newest and largest park in Bloomington opened last month, and it was a busy Saturday, with people strolling the new paths and trying out playground equipment.

Teens quickly took to the skate park, testing new skills and demonstrating tricks. Little kids enjoyed playing on tire swings and merry-go-rounds, as parents watched from the adult-size bench swings. Next to the extensive playground are picnic tables under a open-air pavilion with a fireplace. The B-Line path cuts through the park, so bikers and walkers scanned the scene from the entire length of the park.

Just a small portion of the extensive playground area in the park.

A police substation anchors the north end of the park, where a community garden will open for 2020 planting season. Bocce ball and pickle ball courts lie in-between the garden and substation.

The Bloomington Winter Farmer’s Market is being held now through March 28, 2020 in the main pavilion off Rogers Street, just north of the Rockport Road. intersection.
